In the UK’s video rating system, “U” stands for “universal” and is equivalent to “G” or “All Ages”, but you sometimes see “Uc” meaning “especially suitable for children” — translation: grown-ups will probably find this boring. Something similar could work for manga.

VIZ and Del Rey use a “Youth” rating for some of their titles (e.g. Legend of Zelda, Bakugan Battle Brawlers), but I agree it might be helpful if they used the “Youth” rating for all of their kids’ books. Or if they simply said, “Recommended for ages x to y…”
