personally I believe bakuman is a great manga for it’s type ,but may have a problem keeping the readers intrested after 50 or so chapters because it seems to not really have a base foundation for the series to get intresting like bleach or kaiteyasho hitman reborn does.

I feel your pain about the missing issue. I’ve had to go on the hunt a few times because my subscription and renewal crossed. I can’t believe Viz doesn’t have back issues available! What I ended up doing each time is scour the comic shops around me. Target used to carry Shonen Jump in the collectable card section. Ebay and online comic shops are other options. Don’t hold your breath though. I went 5 months once before I found a missing issue. You can also check Mangatude. People put their SJ’s up for trade as well.

Just happened upon this site while searching for stuff about the june issue, which they conveniently decided wasn’t part of my subscription, tho the exp. should’ve happened a month later and my renewal should’ve had it justincase. two things: 1. i like the post, and it’ll be added to my regular reading. 2. does anyone have any idea where i can buy this issue online? by the time i found out why it wasn’t coming, it seemed to have dissapeared from stores. Also did SJ stop selling back issues, or summin els?

Yeah, in total agreement with you there. I’ve never read Death Note, so I don’t know about that, but maybe that’s why Bakuman isn’t being serialized in Shonen Jump, and is only getting a preview. Viz doesn’t want to antagonize what’s probably a strong reader base. Even if SJ is aimed at boys, and LOT of girls still read it. They MUST know they can’t push them too much.

One Piece was by far the best read from this month, but Bakuman really upset me. One, it was VERY misogynistic. My blood was boiling while reading that chapter. I really tried to rationalize it. The audience mainly being Japanese boys, which made me want to just cry for Japanese females. The thing I most worry about is if Bakuman is even remotely similar to the logical arguments that appeared in Death Note, the mangaka previous title, this misogynistic debate will appear again and again. Gawd help America, I know I am not the main audience for Shonen Jump, but it IS the most successful manga magazine in America with over 300,000+ readers each month.
