Thanks! The sisterly feel between mother and daughter really stood out to me, but I think that's because I have daughters myself.

I think young adults would get more out of this than 20-year-olds. At that point, they are beyond most of the growth shown in the books. 16 and up can still relate to what Ehwa's going through.

I also remembered being very impressed with the first volume, but then later became less enthusiastic with the subsequent volumes. Like you pointed out, it became a chore to read the later chapters when the characters all spoke in long-term sentences. At first, I couldn't quite pin down exactly what it was about the flowery dialogue I didn't quite like.

Then while forcing myself to read the 3rd book - I realized why I had so much trouble - all the characters sound exactly the same! Practically everybody was spouting philosophical lines often starting with "Why do I feel this way?" Even the guys sitting around in the bar wax eloquence in the same way that Ehwa & her mother did. As a result, no particular strong personality stands out. If one of the monologues were switched around with another character, we wouldn't be able to tell. (Unless it was a man or woman)

Great review! You focused on some good stuff, like that sisterly feeling between t hem, that I definitely missed and didn't point out.

I still wouldn't give this series to young adults. No one younger than 20 probably.
