This has been bothering me for a long time. I’ve been going to San Diego for over 20 years, and I’ve seen all the changes that have happened to it, and a lot of these media companies have just been hurting it, not helping. IMHO.

While I do love some of the film panels at Con, and have been happily been surprised at some of them that seemed somewhat out of place (like Tenacious D in 2005), it was just making Con more crowded and made it less of a “Comic-Con” and more of its marketing-driven misnomer of “the world’s largest pop culture convention.” I’m all for bringing comics to the masses, but it hasn’t been doing that very well these past few years.
Like you, I’m also excited for all the manga publisher panels. Also, great news on the Viz panels and giveaways–we’ll be getting lots of manga-centric goodies this year, even moreso than in years past!
I’ve found a lot of programming that I’m really interested in seeing. Now, if I can just find a way to make myself appear in two places at once…
