End Announced for Until Death Do Us Part Manga

November 17, 2015

Square Enix’s Young Gangan magazine revealed that the title Until Death Do Us Part will be ending in the 22nd issue out November 20, after almost 10 years of serialization.

UNTILDEATH_1Created by Hiroshi Takashige and Double-S, the sci-fi action series put two unlikely protagonists together. Haruka Tooyama is a 12-year-old girl with an extraordinary gift of being able to foresee probabilities, and in essence, seeing the future. Mamoru is blind, but with the help of technology and a finely honed skill with the sword is a master swordsman. Haruka chooses Mamoru to be her protector, proclaiming he will keep her safe “until death do us part…”

Square Enix published the title’s 25th volume in July, leaving the series with at least 26 volumes, a nice even figure, to end on. Yen Press has been publishing the series here in the west as 2-volume omnibuses, so this would be good news for them as well.

Until Death 4I haven’t been all that impressed with Until Death Do Us Part. Having read the first 4/8 volumes, it’s been a lot of action; Mamoru slicing and dicing, and Haruka fretting, but so far I haven’t seen any real story or character development. I would expect this from a summer blockbuster movie adaptation, not a 25 volume series. I keep trying though. I get snippets here and there that make me think there’s a story to be found here. I keep hoping it’ll show up eventually.
