Weekly Top Ten Manga

Every week, the New York Times and Amazon posts the top ten bestselling books. The New York Times gets their numbers from print sales from retailers, while Amazon and Vizmanga.com calculates their own numbers. Once a month the Nielsen Bookscan posts their top twenty graphic novels of which manga is included. Offered here is a listing of these books with their status this week compared with the previous week, and some way-off analysis of the activity.

Naruto Vol 72‘s big streak at the top has ended thanks to the release of a new Tokyo Ghoul, Vol 3. Viz Media’s near dominance also ends with new releases and old returnees. Seven Seas gets a title on with Magika Swordsman and the Summoner Vol 2 debuting in the top 5. Kodansha gets a debut with Vol 50 of Fairy Tail, while Attack On Titan Vol 1 returns for its 115th appearance on the list. Yen Press also has a title return, with Big Hero Six Vol 2 making its comeback for its fourth week. Viz still holds a slight lead thanks to both Tokyo Ghoul and One-Punch Man‘s multiple volumes appearances.

There is a lot of anticipation for the new volume of One-Punch Man Vol 3, as its pre-order rushes to the top. Tokyo Ghoul Vol 3 is pushed back down, having to jump over Naruto Vol 72 and One-Punch Man Vol 1, both of which are unmoved from last week. Also not moving are the Tokyo Ghoul volumes 1 and 4, which book end the only non-Viz Media title, Sword Art Online Progressive Novel vol 3 from Yen Press, and the only new title, the pre-order of One Piece Vol 76.
