Weekly Top Ten Manga

Every week, the New York Times and Amazon posts the top ten bestselling books. The New York Times gets their numbers from print sales from retailers, while Amazon calculates their own numbers. Once a month the Nielsen Bookscan posts their top twenty graphic novels of which manga is included. Offered here is a listing of these books with their status this week compared with the previous week, along with some way-off analysis of the activity.

New York Times Bestseller List for the week ending December 19, 2015

Tokyo Ghoul Vol 4 finally makes its print debut and takes the top spot from One-Punch Man Vol 1, sending it down just one place. The only other debut title is Kodansha’s Attack on Titan Vol 17, coming in at #3, and joining Vol 1 surrounding One-Punch Man Vol 2. The remaining Tokyo Ghoul volumes reverse order to count down  while One-Punch Man Vol 3 returns for its 16th week on the list.

Amazon has two debut titles as well. One-Punch Man Vol 4‘s pre-order shoots it up the list, but not quite close enough to join Vols 1-3, who continue to reign over the top three spots. Tokyo Ghoul lines up nicely after One-Punch Man Vol 1-3, though there is some back and forth between the volumes. The only non-Viz Media title is also the other debut title. Yen Press’ Sword Art Online Phantom Bullet Novel Vol 6 just squeaks in at #10.
