Beet the Vandel Buster Returns!

April 5, 2016

Back in December Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump announced that the creators of Beet the Vandel Buster, Riku Sanjo and Koji Inada, would be returning to the manga after a ten-year absence. The manga, previously serialized in the now-defunct Monthly Shonen Jump would return in the spring in Shueisha’s monthly Jump SQ Crown.

Beet returns It’s now spring, and Beet the Vandel Buster‘s return is imminent! Shueisha Manga Net’s Facebook page announced that the manga would be in the spring issue out April 15. It will pick up where it left off with the “Baron” Chapter, which if I remember correct left off with a cliff hanger in Volume 12.

Beet the Vandel Buster takes place in a fantasy world where monsters known as Vandels have taken over the world and terrorize the people. Humanity’s only hope are the Vandel Busters, warriors who can access a soul weapon known as a saiga that they use to take on and defeat the Vandels. Beet is one such warrior. He idolized a group of warriors known as the Zenon Warriors, but when he interferes in one of their battles, they give up their lives and their saigas to save him. Armed with the weapons of the Zenon Warriors, Beet decides to end the Vandel’s rule, and with the help of his friends Paola and Kiss, they take on the Vandels, protecting people and searching for Beltorze, intent on avenging the Zenon Warriors.

Beet the Vandel Buster 1It’s been a long time since I last read the series, and I gave away my volumes, since after nearly 10 years, I didn’t believe it would be coming back. It seems Viz Media felt the same way, since they took the series off their website, probably because they let the license expire. Finding volumes of this series might not be easy or cheap, but hopefully, Viz will pick the series back up, re-release it digitally, and release the new volumes in print and digital.

I did enjoy Beet the Vandel Buster, and hope it makes a big enough of a comeback to justify its return to the states. I want to see what’s coming next, and what’s in store for Beet and his friends.
