Every week, Viz Media and the New York Times posts the top ten bestselling books. For Viz Media, it is the bestsellers on their site, Vizmanga.com. The New York Times gets their numbers of print sales from retailers. Offered here is a listing of these books with their status this week compared with the previous week, and some way-off analysis of the activity.
Vizmanga.com for the week of October 14, 2014
Deadman Wonderland Vol 5 ∗- Naruto Vol 67 ↓ 1
- Magi Vol 8 ∗
- Case Closed Vol 52 ∗
- All You Need is Kill Vol 1 ↑ 4
- Bakuman Vol 1 ↵
- All You Need is Kill Vol 2 ↑ 3
- Bakuman Vol 2 ↵
- World Trigger Vol 1 ↓ 7
- Toriko Vol 24 ↓ 5
For the first time in quite a while, shojo has been completely pushed off the list, leaving this week all to shonen. Deadman Wonderland Vol 5‘s debut has pushed last week’s top title, Naruto Vol 67 down a slot. World Trigger took the biggest fall though, with Vol 1 tumbling down 7 spots to #9. Obata manga continues to do well. All You Need is Kill Vol 1-2 got split up, but they both moved up. Bakuman Vol 1-2 returns, kicking Hikaru no Go out. I’m surprised Bakuman didn’t show up sooner with the rock bottom price the first volume has.
New York Time Bestseller list for the week ending October 18, 2014
Vampire Knight Vol 19 ∗- Naruto Vol 67 ↓ 1
- Fairy Tail Vol 42 ↑ 1
- Attack on Titan Vol 1 ↑ 1
- Kamisama Kiss Vol 16 ∗
- Food Wars Vol 2 ∗
- Happy Marriage?! Vol 8 ∗
- Maximum Ride Vol 8 ↔
- Unofficial Hatsune Mix ∗
- Attack on Titan Vol 2 ↓ 5
Shojo sees a lot more respect from the NYT list, with 3 titles making the list, including the top spot with the final Vampire Knight. Have to admit I won’t miss that series. It’s good to see Kamisama Kiss, and really good to see Happy Marriage?!, with its josei leanings make the list too. Naruto Vol 67 has to take the 1st loser spot again as if falls to #2, and we lose Attack on Titan: No Regrets Vol 1 completely. NO!!! The Unofficial Hatune Mix from Dark Horse doesn’t really seem like top 10 material. I wonder if her appearance on David Letterman helped push sales any?
