Every week, the New York Times and Amazon posts the top ten bestselling books. The New York Times gets their numbers from print sales from retailers, while Amazon calculates their own numbers. Offered here is a listing of these books with their status this week compared with the previous week, and some way-off analysis of the activity.
New York Times Bestseller List for the week ending January 17, 2015

All is right again with the world, and the apocalypse has been averted; Attack on Titan vol 1 returns to the NYT Bestseller list, and in the top five. A new title takes the top spot as Finder Vol 7, a BL from Digital Manga Publishing debuts. DMP is actually running a kickstarter to reprint Finder Vol 1-6. Check it out if you interested in the series. Viz’s One Piece Vol 73 debuts at #2 along with Nisekoi Vol 7. Kodansha swaps out one fantasy adventure, Fairy Tail, for another, The Seven Deadly Sins Vol 6. Yen Press is essentially purged from the list except for Kingdom Hearts II Vol 3.
Amazon.com for the week of January 24, 2015

Yen Press does better on Amazon. They have four titles, including the top title, Akame ga Kill Vol 1 which takes it after one week, and two Sword Art Online titles. Black Butler Vol 19 was just released this week and it’s already at #4. That should be showing up on the NYT list soon. Attack on Titan was never in danger here, with three volumes, including Vol 1 in the top three. Jojo’ s Bizarre Adventure Part 1 makes an interesting appearance now as well as being the top Viz Media title on the list. Not too shabby.
Nielsen Bookscan Top 20 for December 2014
8. Naruto Vol 68
14. Attack on Titan Vol 1
Manga really took a beating on Bookscan in December. People were buying comic book trades, hard covers and deluxe editions like nobody’s business. The two titles to make the list are no surprise; Naruto and Attack on Titan. Hopefully with the new year will come a better showing for manga.
