Weekly Top Ten – August 15, 2015

Weekly Top Ten MangaEvery week, the New York Times and Amazon posts the top ten bestselling books. The New York Times gets their numbers from print sales from retailers, while Amazon and Vizmanga.com calculates their own numbers. Once a month the Nielsen Bookscan posts their top twenty graphic novels of which manga is included. Offered here is a listing of these books with their status this week compared with the previous week, and some way-off analysis of the activity.

After retaking the stop spot for two weeks, Tokyo Ghoul Vol 1 gives up its spot to the new release of Naruto Vol 71, the penultimate volume. That’s right, there’s only one more volume to go, only one more time it can debut on the NYT top ten. It’s joined by several other Shonen Jump titles all of which debut in the top four spots. Also joining the party is Seraph of the End Vol 1, returning for its 4th total week on the list. Kodansha’s Fairy Tail Vol 49 moves up fast, while Yen Press’ Akame ga Kill! Vol 3 drops the most while staying on the list, 8 spots.

Tokyo Ghoul Vol 2 shoots back up on Amazon’s top ten to retake the top spot from Naruto Vol 71, but Monster Musume Vol 7 bides its time, ready to take over that top spot. Attack on Titan Vol 16 switches editions as the regular edition takes over for the Special Edition that debuted last week. Vol 1 returns as well. While the Shonen Jump titles did well on the NYT, they are slowly slipping down here, with all but One Piece Vol 75 falling.
