Weekly Top Ten – August 22, 2015

Weekly Top Ten Manga

Every week, the New York Times and Amazon posts the top ten bestselling books. The New York Times gets their numbers from print sales from retailers, while Amazon and Vizmanga.com calculates their own numbers. Once a month the Nielsen Bookscan posts their top twenty graphic novels of which manga is included. Offered here is a listing of these books with their status this week compared with the previous week, and some way-off analysis of the activity.

New York times Bestseller List for the week ending August 15, 2015

  1. Monster Musume 7Monster Musume Vol 7
  2. Naruto Vol 71     ↓ 1
  3. My Hero Academia Vol 1     ↑ 1
  4. One Piece Vol 75     ↓ 1
  5. Tokyo Ghoul Vol 1
  6. Assassination Classroom Vol 5
  7. JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure Part 1: Phantom Blood Vol 3     ↓ 5
  8. Food Wars! Vol 7     ∗
  9. Dragonar Academy Vol 7
  10. Akame ga Kill! Vol 3

Only the strongest survive week to week on here, and the strongest this week are the monster girls from Monster Musume, as Vol 7 debuts at the top.  Naruto Vol 71 is only pushed down one, with My Hero Academia Vol 1 and One Piece Vol 75 switch places. Two volumes stay steady, keeping their spots from last week, including the only Yen Press title to survive, Akame ga Kill! Vol 3. Seven Seas gets another title on the list with Dragonar Academy Vol 7, while Kodansha has been pushed off completely, including the perpetual Attack on Titan Vol 1. But I don’t think that will last long.

Amazon.com for the week ending August 22, 2015

  1. Tokyo Ghoul 2Tokyo Ghoul Vol 2
  2. Monster Musume Vol 7     ↔ 2
  3. Naruto Vol 71
  4. Attack on Titan Vol 16      ↑ 1
  5. Naruto Vol 72     ↑ 1
  6. Tokyo Ghoul Vol 1     ↓ 2
  7. Attack on Titan Vol 1     ↑ 3
  8. Tokyo Ghoul Vol 3
  9. The Devil is a Part-Timer Vol 2
  10. JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure Part 1: Phantom Blood Vol 3     ↓ 3

The top three titles stay the course, not moving more making space for anyone.  Two new titles make their debut near the bottom, giving Yen Press their only title on the list with The Devil is a Part-Timer Vol 2 along with the pre-order for the next Tokyo Ghoul, Vol 3, which isn’t due to release until October. This title is really making its mark. Biggest fall comes from JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure Part 1: Phantom Blood Vol 3, which dropped three spots. It’s not a lot, but enough to keep the title hanging on the edge, striking a pose nonetheless.
