I love mysteries and detective stories, so whenever I hear about a new one, I have to talk about it! Shuiesha’s Cocohana magazine has announced that Akiko Higashimura, the creator of Princess Jellyfish and the award-winning Kakukaku Shikajika, will be starting a new detective series in the November issue due on in September.
The series, Bishoku Tantei, Gourmet Detective, started as a one-shot in the same magazine back in June, but seems to have done well enough to get a full serialization. Not much has been said to describe the series, other than the detective, Goro Akechi, is handsome, and will travel around the world to “taste and solve” mysteries.
Fans have been clamoring for Higashimura’s Princess Jellyfish, and finally got their wish when first Crunchyroll announced it for digital release, and then Kodansha announced the print edition. I really hope Princess Jellyfish does well, because that means we’ll have a better chance of getting both Kakukaku Shikajika, a series I’d love to read, as well as this new one! Even if mysteries haven’t historically done all that well, this one brings in food. There are plenty of foodie cozies, so there must be an audience for Bishoku Tantei as well. Here’s hoping!
