It’s not much of a week for print manga from Diamond. Kodansha and Seven Seas Entertainment are the only ones releasing anything, and none of them are anything I’m reading. Thank goodness for the growth of digital manga!
Kodansha has their weekly regulars, including Space Brothers. I would like to try that title, but not at $10.99. I know I’ve mentioned this before, but I do wonder if Kodansha is getting the kinds of sales they were looking for at that price. I can get two Viz Media digital titles for that one digital, and even get Kodansha’s own print title for less.
There’s only one title that really has me interested, and that’s The Case Study of Vanitas, the new series from Jun Mochizuki, the creator of Pandora Hearts. Yen Press is simul-pubing the series, and the first chapter debuts this week. It’s a supernatural fantasy that takes place in 19th Century Paris. Mochizuki has enough of my trust that I’d be willing to take a chance on the first chapter.
