Weekly Top Ten Manga

Every week, the New York Times and Amazon posts the top ten bestselling books. The New York Times gets their numbers from print sales from retailers, while Amazon calculates their own numbers. Once a month the Nielsen Bookscan posts their top twenty graphic novels of which manga is included. Offered here is a listing of these books with their status this week compared with the previous week, along with some commentary on the activity.


New York Times Bestseller List for the week ending March 5, 2016

Viz comes back this week, reasserting its dominance by taking back two spots on the list. One-Punch Man Vol 5 takes the top spot away from rival Tokyo Ghoul Vol 5, which ends up falling 3 to #4. Debuting along with it is Yu-Gi-Oh! Zexal Vol 8 and Bleach Vol 66. Seven Seas falls off the list entirely, but Yen Press makes up for it with their new title Demonizer Zilch Vol 1 which also joins Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon Vol 4. Kodansha rounds out the list with their two big sellers, Noragami Vol 11 and Fairy Tail Vol 52 hanging on for second week.

One-Punch Man Vol 5 holds on to the top spot this week and is joined by One-Punch Man Vol 1 at #2. Tokyo Ghoul, like a little kid, has to copy them with its Vol 5 and Vol 1 coming together as well. One volume makes its debut on the list with the new Inio Asano title, Goodnight PunPun Vol 1 , charting a week ahead of its release. Yu-Gi-Oh! Zexal Vol 8, holds on, but only just as it takes the biggest tumble, 5 places, to #9 while One-Punch Man Vol 3 returns for its 20th week. And just like last week, and so many weeks before than, Amazon continues to be Viz Media exclusive.
