Every week, the New York Times and Amazon posts the top ten bestselling books. The New York Times gets their numbers from print sales from retailers, while Amazon calculates their own numbers. Once a month the Nielsen Bookscan posts their top twenty graphic novels of which manga is included. Offered here is a listing of these books with their status this week compared with the previous week, along with some commentary on the activity.

New York Times Bestseller List for the week ending March 26, 2016
No Game No Life Novel Vol 4 ∗- Tokyo Ghoul Vol 1 ↑ 2
- Goodnight PunPun Vol 1 ↓ 2
- One-Punch Man Vol 1 ↑ 1
- Sword Art Online Progressive Vol 4 ∗
- Seraph of the End Vol 8 ↵ 2
- Noragami Vol 12 ∗
- Akame ga Kill! Zero Vol 1 ∗
- One-Punch Man Vol 5 ↓ 7
- Yu-Gi-Oh! Zexal Vol 8 ↓ 7
New releases from Yen Press makes a strong impression on the list this week, including taking over the top spot as No Game No Life Novel Vol 4 debuts at #1. Also debuting are Sword Art Online Progressive Vol 4 and Akame ga Kill! Zero Vol 1. Kodansha also gets a volume on the list with Noragami Vol 12 debuting. Viz Media still hold the majority of the list, saw more titles fall than rise. The two biggest drops got to One-Punch Man Vol 5 and Yu-Gi-Oh! Zexal Vol 8, both of which fell 7 spots. It’s good to see that other series’ can still penetrate the top ten despite Viz’s dominance.

Amazon.com for the week ending April 2, 2016
One-Punch Man Vol 1 ↔- Tokyo Ghoul Vol 1 ↑ 2
- Nichijou Vol 1 ∗
- Tokyo Ghoul Vol 6 ∗
- Pokemon Adventures Vol 1-7 Boxset ↵ 2
- Attack on Titan Vol 18 ∗
- Tokyo Ghoul Vol 2 ↵ 32
- One-Punch Man Vol 5 ↓ 6
- Tokyo Ghoul Vol 5 ↓ 6
- One-Punch Man Vol 2 ↓ 4
One-Punch Man Vol 1 tries one again to keep a hold on the top spot this week, with Tokyo Ghoul Vol 1 pushing from behind. Three titles debut this week, one more than last week, and two are from publishers other than Viz. Of course the preorder for Tokyo Ghoul Vol 6 has to start charting, and with the new Attack on Titan, Vol 18 coming out this week, I’m surprised it didn’t chart sooner. The big surprise is seeing Vertical Comics’ Nichijou Vol 1 not only debut in the top ten, but make it to the top three! I know this title has been highly anticipated by fans, but I didn’t know it had that many fans!

Nielsen Bookscan Top 20 for March 2016
2.
One-Punch Man Vol 5 ∗
8. Tokyo Ghoul Vol 5 ↓ 7
9. Tokyo Ghoul Vol 1 ↑ 1
10. Yu-Gi-Oh! Zexal Vol 8 ∗
14. One-Punch Man Vol 1 ↓ 6
16. Tokyo Ghoul Vol 2 ↑ 4
18. Naruto: The Seventh Hokage and the Scarlet Spring ↓ 13
19. Tokyo Ghoul Vol 4 ↓ 2
20. Tokyo Ghoul Vol 3 ↵
Manga loses a spot, dropping to nine titles, all of which belong to Viz Media, which should be of no surprise. What should also be of no surprise is that all of the Tokyo Ghoul titles in print are on the list, while only the first and fifth of One-Punch Man charted, though Vol 5 was the highest ranked of all the manga titles. Yu-Gi-Oh! Zexal proves its worth with Vol 8 debuting at #10, and Naruto shows it still has some life as The Seven Hokage and the Scarlet Spring is still charting, though it may be at its end as well.
