Weekly Top Ten – May 14, 2016

Weekly Top Ten Manga

Every week, the New York Times and Amazon posts the top ten bestselling books. The New York Times gets their numbers from print sales from retailers, while Amazon calculates their own numbers. Once a month the Nielsen Bookscan posts their top twenty graphic novels of which manga is included. Offered here is a listing of these books with their status this week compared with the previous week, along with some commentary on the activity.

Once again, the release of new Viz Media titles wipes out any gains other publishers made last week. One-Punch Man Vol 6 bounds into the top spot for its debut. Right behind it is My Hero Academia Vol 4, showing off its muscles. One Piece Vol 78 debuts in the top five but JoJo’s Bizarre Aventure Part 2: Battle Tendency Vol 3 makes a lower, but still respectable debut at #7. Attack On Titan Vol 18 is once again the only non-Viz Media to survive, and has done so for 5 weeks now. Just what you’d expect from Titans.

Very little changes this week, as the top three titles remained unmoved as well as reflecting the contents of the rest of the list. One-Punch Man Vol 6 holds at the top, remaining a relative loner as only Vol 1 made the list as well. My Hero Academia Vol 4 has its whole crew with it, with Vol 2 and 3 moving up while Vol 1 moved down. Tokyo Ghoul fills the rest of the spaces as Vol 6 holds on at #3 and Vol 4 returning, to make this a clean sweep of heroes and ghouls.
