The wave of Attack on Titan spin offs continues with the latest announcement that the spin-off novel, Attack on Titan: Lost Girls, is getting a manga adaptation in Kodansha’s Bessatsu Shonen Magazine. It began serialization earlier this month, and is being adapted by Ryosuke Fuji.
The novel Lost Girls was written by Hoshi Seko, and is a collection of three short stories featuring Annie and Mikasa titled “Lost in the Cruel World,” “Wall Sina, Goodbye,” and “Lost Girls.” I can’t say I really ever liked Annie, but I love Mikasa, so seeing her get her own stories is a bit plus. The novel has been licensed by Vertical Comics here as they announced at Anime Expo. Vertical has already licensed and released the novels of Attack on Titan: Before the Fall, and have done an excellent job so far, so I have little doubt this will be any different.
As for the manga adaptation, I think after at least a volume worth of chapters have gone by, we will be hearing an announcement from Kodansha about it being licensed. Kodansha Comics already has the main series and the spin offs No Regrets about Levi joining the Survey Corps, and Before the Fall, the adaptation of the second and third volumes of the novel series. I doubt they will let this one go.
I’ve really enjoyed all the spin offs so far, both the novel and the manga adaptation. It’s rare that I’ll read more than one version of a series, but Attack on Titan seems to be the exception to that rule. I’m looking forward the novel and inevitable manga license.
